Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion processing of lime products, including:

identifying the processed required for the distributed control system (DCS)

identifying and diagnose faults

selecting and using the required hand and power tools

handling dangerous materials

working in confined spaces

read/listen and interpret instrumentation, indicators and alarms

operating lift equipment (manual, cranes and loads)

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the processing of lime products that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work/plans/specifications

demonstrates completion of processing lime products that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

operating feed system including:

starting up the feed system in sequence

monitoring feeder plant and equipment

performing feeder shutdown procedures

performing lime kiln operations including:

monitoring and adjusting kiln processing systems and media

adjusting and/or replacing burner components

monitoring and controlling milk of lime plant including:

the process stream

adjusting the density

control pumping

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in processing lime products through:

applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

risk assessment and management

statutory compliance

work health and safety

complying with breakdown procedures

applying equipment safety requirements

complying with emergency procedures

complying environmental procedures

applying hazardous goods procedures and consequences of spills and hazardous goods

complying with WHS procedures

applying isolation procedures

identifying and handling dangerous materials

reading and interpreting instrumentation

interpreting instructions and reports

identifying and diagnosing faults

using lift (manual, cranes and loads)

maintaining records

applying safe work practices

identifying and using hand and power tools

working in confined spaces

applying properties and composition of limestone

using storage methods and capacities

applying safety considerations with hot limestone

complying with dust extraction systems and plant

maintaining feed systems, plant and equipment

using kiln/calcining processes, plant and equipment

complying slaking processes, plant and equipment

identifying equipment limitations and operating parameters

identifying repair requirements

using technical data (basic)

applying operational procedures and checks

applying quality monitoring and control
